Alan Melvin

My name is Alan Melvin and I attend the CRC out in the Hartstown Centre. Last year, I was invited by Freedom Tech to speak at the Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2021. I spoke about how assistive technology helps me.

Hobbies & Interests
My passion is doing advocacy work and community projects. I am part of the advocacy group in my centre, and I am the chairperson of the group. I help set up and run the meetings. I find this very rewarding as I can help my friends and other people with disabilities to make their voices heard.

Bio
My name is Catherine Cooper and I attend the Hartstown Centre in CRC. I am an activist and advocate on behalf of myself and others who have a disability. Over the past two years I have been the Chairperson of the Adult Service Council in CRC. In this role I have gained confidence and skills in leadership and presenting. In 2021 I applied to be nominated to be a member of Disability Federation Ireland. I was accepted and now attend meetings with them each month. I recently completed training with NUI Galway on the Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act 2015.

Hobbies & Interests
I am a strong advocate for people with disabilities and am committed to fighting for our rights to be treated as equal citizens. I also enjoy meeting people and working together in making changes. Some of the things I enjoy are going for lunch with my friends, a good party, and a bit of a laugh. I am competitive and love to win at Bingo.

Claire Pringle

My Name is Claire Pringle. I am currently a Virtual services employee with Enable Ireland; I host activities on a local and national level. I have participated in an EPALE conference online to promote virtual services to Greece and Spain; I made a short video and answered questions from participants. I have also made a recording for REHAB group and discussed how happy the virtual services has made me.

Hobbies & Interests
My keen interests are photography, nature, beauty and fashion. I love to watch reality TV shows thrillers and comedies, I also love to dance I participate in Zumba it makes me so happy.

David has over 20 years experience working in the retail industry in his local community. As a researcher for the Looking Ahead Project, he presented his experiences of participating in the research team at the online launch of the Looking Ahead Project Conference.

Hobbies & Interests
David has a keen interest in current affairs, enjoys taking cruise vacations and also is a die-hard Liverpool fan. David's favourite place to visit is the Isle of Man.

Francis Moore​

My name is Francis Moore and I attend Enable Ireland Adult Service in Sandyford. I am also employed with Enable Ireland as a Virtual Support Worker, as part of my role I present in a Radio Podcast every morning to start off the Virtual Menu for the day.

Hobbies & Interests
I enjoy watching TV shows and soaps and listening to random 80s music on my Alexa and on my laptop. I have a great sense of humor and I love to chat and have the banter. I am also an electrifying Red Devils fan. I have also recently started a new Health and Fitness programme where I aspire to keep fit and healthy.

Sean Rooney

My name is Sean Rooney (also known as Mr. Handsome) and I attend Enable Ireland Adult Services in Rialto Hub. I take part in a variety of activities in the local community, including cooking classes and community breakfast. Recently I participated in giving a presentation to the school leavers in Sandymount School regarding transitioning from a school setting to an Adult Service setting.


Hobbies & Interests
I love taking part in sports. Every Saturday I play football at St John Bosco FC in Drimnagh. I also go to the local gym every week. I always look forward to the summer as every year I head down to Wexford and spend a few weeks in my mobile. I am friendly, outgoing and social person and will never leave the house without my hair done.

Stephen Glynn

My name is Stephen Glynn. I currently attend CRC Clontarf and also SBHI. I am passionate about promoting diability awareness and advocating for human rights. I am have been an active member of the local advocacy committee in the CRC and have spoken publicly at a number of events about relevant topics such as issues that people with disabilities face around using public transport and the lack of accessiblilty within our communitities in general. I have gained confidence in my capabilities as a public speaker by participating in these events. I also acted as MC for a wonderful event that took place in Deer Park in Howth last year where we, the adults of the Lifeskills programme, launched a book of short stories, "We shared our stories". I have also been featured in a video for Leargas.

Hobbies & Interests
I like to cook. When I can, I go to concerts, I particularly like to go to see Robbie Williams whenever I can. I like to play basketball and tennis. I absolutely love Christmas films and watch them all year round! I also like to socialise when I can and go out for lunch with friends.

Valerie Whelan

My name is Valerie Whelan and I attend the Enable Ireland Adult Service out in Dun Loaghaire. I work as receptionist in the day centre and I am also employed as a Virtual Support worker and I am actively involved in supporting our virtual service on a local and national level.

Hobbies & Interests
I enjoy and love listening to music and my favourite artist is Van ’the man’ Morrison. I also enjoy watching films and one of my all-time favourite actor’s is Audrey Hepburn. I try hard to keep fit and exercise, and use a motomed exercise bike daily. I look forward to and enjoy my holiday and respite breaks.
